Bashar Murkus y Khulood Basel revisitan una narrativa transmitida oralmente desde el siglo XIV, cantada y representada a lo largo de la Península Arábiga por innumerables poetas populares. La legendaria epopeya de los Banu Hilal —a menudo descrita como la Ilíada árabe— cobra vida a través de siete intérpretes exuberantes y humorísticos que también se preguntan, sin nostalgia, qué hubiera podido ser el teatro árabe sin la influencia colonial.
El espectáculo sigue la vida extraordinaria de Abū Zayd al-Hilālī, un niño exiliado en la infancia por el color de su piel, quien se eleva a lo largo de los siglos de refugiado desplazado a figura mítica. La ceremonia combina música en directo, títeres y coreografía de danza Dabke.
