Bashar Murkus und Khulood Basel beleuchten eine seit dem 14. Jahrhundert mündlich überlieferte Erzählung, die von unzähligen Volksdichtern auf der gesamten Arabischen Halbinsel gesungen und aufgeführt wurde. Das legendäre Epos der Banu Hilal – oft als das arabische Äquivalent zur Ilias beschrieben – wird durch sieben ausgelassene und humorvolle Performer zum Leben erweckt, die sich auch ohne Nostalgie die Frage stellen, was das arabische Theater hätte werden können ohne kolonialen Einfluss.
Die Show folgt dem außergewöhnlichen Leben von Abū Zayd al-Hilālī, einem Jungen, der wegen seiner Hautfarbe in der Kindheit verbannt wurde und der sich über Jahrhunderte vom vertriebenen Flüchtling zur mythischen Figur entwickelt. Die Inszenierung verbindet Live-Musik, Puppenspiel und Dabke-Tanzchoreographie.
