Shaka Club is a smoothie and coffee bar at 1268 rue Saint-Antoine Ouest, and it operates on a simple premise: every item on the menu should taste good and do the body some good at the same time. The smoothies are built from organic, high-quality ingredients and composed deliberately to target specific areas of wellbeing — energy, digestion, immunity — so that nutrition and pleasure arrive in the same cup. Alongside them the counter serves coffee, wellness shots, toast and snacks, with an online shop and delivery for anyone not passing by.
Each smoothie comes in three formats. The à boire version contains only the ingredients listed under "base", making a lighter, drinkable 16oz; the medium and large bowls are thicker and creamier, closer to ice cream in texture, and add the toppings that make them a fuller meal. The six numbered creations each have a purpose attached. Aloha (digestive health) blends strawberry, organic banana, papaya, glutamine, baobab, coconut yogurt, ground flaxseed and freeze-dried raspberry, finished with raspberry, chia, cashew and raw granola. Bloom (hormonal balance) works banana, raspberry, dragon fruit, avocado, Ceylon cinnamon, MCT oil and hibiscus tea into something equally pretty. Bolt (hydration) is the citrus one — lemon, pineapple, mango, grilled banana, electrolytes, coconut water and Himalayan pink salt, topped with goji, pumpkin seed and lyophilised lemon. Coast (dopamine) leans on vanilla plant protein, lion's mane, L-tyrosine, mucuna pruriens and blue spirulina under blueberry, toasted coconut and cacao nibs. Malibu (multivitamin) mixes peach, mango, strawberry, sea buckthorn and passion fruit with a B complex, vitamin D and camu camu, swirled with dragon fruit coulis. And Maui (muscle recovery) is the substantial one: banana, pineapple, avocado, espresso, cacao, peanut butter, creatine monohydrate and plant protein, topped with strawberry, macadamia and raw granola.
Bright, functional and unusually thoughtful about what goes into the blender, Shaka Club is where Montreal's mornings get their vitamins without giving up on flavour.
