Henri-Michaux : Mouvements + Solos et duos choisis - Compagnie Marie Chouinard.

In 46 days dance performance

Henri-Michaux : Mouvements + Solos et duos choisis is a double bill by Compagnie Marie Chouinard, staged at the Monument-National in Montreal, in the Salle Ludger-Duvernay. It is an evening of contemporary dance that brings together two parts of the choreographer's work.

The first half is a selection of emblematic solos and duets drawn from Marie Chouinard's repertoire, giving a sense of the company's range and the distinct physical language she has developed over her career. The second half is Henri Michaux : Mouvements, a piece inspired by the 1951 book of ink drawings by the poet and painter Henri Michaux. Those drawings, studies of gesture and motion, are a natural reference point for a work that is itself about movement.

What to expect

  • A programme of about 90 minutes in total.
  • Strobe effects, which may be intense for some viewers.
  • Partial nudity, as part of the choreography.

The Monument-National is a historic performance hall in the Quartier des spectacles, so the evening pairs easily with a walk through the surrounding district, which is lively with theatres, cafés and restaurants. Visitors who enjoy dance, or who are curious about how a visual artist's drawings can translate into the body, will find the programme especially rewarding. Those sensitive to flashing light or to nudity on stage may want to consider the content before booking.
