Trio Terrea & KØLSTER x AKELA: Microtonal Chamber Music Double Bill.

In 30 days concert

This double bill at ALICE in Copenhagen brings two very different chamber ensembles to one evening, and it closes out the venue's season. It is a concert for listeners curious about sound beyond the familiar Western tuning system.

What to expect

The first half belongs to Trio Terrea, led by Iranian pianist Amir Ahmadi with violinist Sarvin Hazin and cellist Anna Maria Niemiec. They play on a custom-built 31-tone keyboard, an instrument made to explore new harmonic possibilities. The music draws on Persian traditions and European art music, so the intervals may sound unfamiliar and rewarding at once.

The second half is given to AKELA, a string quartet that interprets the music of composer Sune Kølster. The programme ranges from Arabic-inspired orchestral music to the soundtrack for the film Speak No Evil (2024). AKELA received the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize in 2024.

Why go

  • Two ensembles with contrasting approaches, heard in one evening
  • A chance to hear microtonal writing on a purpose-built instrument
  • Film music performed by a string quartet, in a chamber setting
  • A closing event for ALICE's season, supported by the Austrian Embassy in Copenhagen

The concert takes place at ALICE in Copenhagen, Denmark. Full details, including the event page, are listed on the venue's website at alicecph.com.
