Maty Biayenda: After Hours.

Today exhibition

Maty Biayenda: After Hours is a public exhibition on the facade of Nørrebro Teater in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is presented outdoors, so it can be seen from the street rather than only inside the theatre.

What you will see

The exhibition is a series of site-specific flags by Maty Biayenda, combining photography and illustration. The work draws on nightlife subcultures, community memory, and Black female, queer and transgender identities. The flags honour performers such as Rita Ester and Moldavia, as well as ballroom figures and anonymous faces.

The reverse side of the flags features imagery from Biayenda's auto-fictional graphic novel Sphinge Endormie (The Sleeping Sphinx), so the work continues beyond the front of each flag.

About the exhibition

  • Curated by Martha Kirszenbaum
  • The second edition of Nørrebro Teater's public art programme
  • Opens on October 28, 2026, at 16:00
  • Runs until June 19, 2027

Visiting

Because the flags hang on the building's facade, the exhibition is open to passers-by and can be visited at any time during its run, without needing a ticket to enter the theatre. It suits a walk through Nørrebro, one of Copenhagen's best-known neighbourhoods, where the theatre stands. For the opening day and any further practical details, the Nørrebro Teater website lists the exhibition at nbt.dk.
