Transe Gnawa Express ist eine künstlerische Kreation, die traditionelle Gnawa-Musik mit elektronischen Klängen und Live-Videoprojektionen verbindet und ein festliches Trance-Erlebnis bietet. Die elektronischen Elemente verleihen einer bereits kraftvollen Kunstform, die in der nordafrikanischen spirituellen Tradition verwurzelt ist, hypnotische Intensität.
Die Gnawa-Seite des Projekts wird von Hamouda Benzaid, Amine Bassi und Ahmed Labnoua geleitet — drei Musiker und Tänzer aus Essaouira und seinem renommierten Festival, die langjährig Erfahrung in genreübergreifenden musikalischen Zusammenarbeiten haben. Ihre Suche nach einer generationenübergreifenden Begegnung führte sie zum Duo Samifati, das seit über zehn Jahren international unterwegs ist und auftritt.
Das Duo Samifati wird von Sami Fatih an Violine und Maschinen vertreten. Die visuelle Gestaltung wird von Axel Vanlerberghe übernommen, der der Aufführung eine fesselnde szenische Dimension hinzufügt.
Die Veranstaltung findet am Sonntag, 20. September 2026 um 19:30 Uhr im Théâtre Jean-Claude Carrière in Montpellier statt, im Rahmen des Festival Arabesques.
