This organ recital at Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal in Montreal is the third concert in a series devoted to the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach. It takes place on November 29, 2026, at 3:30 pm, and is given by organist Bálint Karosi, who won the Bach Prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2008.
The programme
The afternoon draws on several strands of Bach's organ music:
- The Six Schübler Chorales, BWV 645–650
- The Concerto in D minor, BWV 596, based on a Vivaldi concerto from L'Estro Armonico
- Excerpts from Part III of the Clavier-Übung, including the Prelude and Fugue in E-flat major, BWV 552
What to expect
Karosi is a professor at the University of Michigan and cantor and music director at Saint Peter's Church in New York. The concert is hosted by Vincent Boucher, who introduces the works, and a large screen projection is used during the performance, which can help listeners follow the music.
The recital is presented in partnership with Saint Joseph's Oratory, at 3800 chemin Queen Mary, on the slopes of Mount Royal. For a visitor, it makes an afternoon focused on one of the great organ repertoires, in a setting that is well worth the trip on its own.
