art gallery

Galerie Robertson Arès is a contemporary art gallery in Montreal, housed in a fully renovated building on Notre-Dame Street in the Petite Bourgogne neighbourhood. The gallery was founded in 2019 by Emily Robertson and François Arès, and it presents work by about twenty emerging and established international artists, many of them Canadian-born.

The spaces

The main room is a minimalist white cube filled with natural light, a setting that keeps the attention on the artworks themselves. A lower-level room hosts more intimate exhibitions and experimental work, so a single visit can move from broad, luminous installations to smaller, more concentrated pieces.

Planning a visit

The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday. On Mondays and Sundays it is open by appointment only, so visitors hoping to come on those days should arrange a time in advance. Its address is on Notre-Dame Street West, and the gallery's own website and telephone line are the best sources for current exhibition details.

Beyond its walls, the gallery also takes part in art fairs, including Plural, Art Toronto, Enter Art Fair and Expo Chicago, which gives its program a presence well beyond Montreal. For anyone interested in contemporary painting, sculpture and other current practices, it offers a focused and unhurried visit, well suited to an afternoon of looking.
