Mercredizm: AfroVizyon DJ Set.

In 17 days dj set

Mercredizm: AfroVizyon DJ Set is a vinyl-focused DJ set held in the café of Halle Tropisme in Montpellier, in the Occitania region of France. It takes place on Wednesday 18 November at 19:30.

The evening

The set is played by AfroVizyon, a new Montpellier collective made up of three DJs: SSCK, ANDAO and GONG. What unites them is a love of Afro-descendant music and of vinyl records, and their aim is to take listeners on a musical journey through Afro-diasporic cultures.

Their selections move across a wide range of styles, from collector rarities to recent releases. Expect rhythms that include Kompa, Cadence, Afro-Funk, Semba, Gwoka, Afrobeat, Latin House, Salsa, Soukous, Loketo, Dancehall, Boogie and Hip Hop.

Who it suits

  • Listeners who enjoy vinyl and the particular warmth of records played on turntables
  • Anyone curious about Afro-Caribbean and African diaspora music, from older styles to newer releases
  • Visitors who want a relaxed, social evening in a café rather than a large club night

About the series

Lineup

AfroVizyon

AfroVizyon is a new Montpellier DJ collective made up of three vinyl lovers: SSCK, Andao and Gong. They offer a musical journey through the heritage of Afro-diasporic cultures, mixing collector rarities with recent releases, from the African continent to the 1970s Antilles and 90s hip-hop.

SSCK

SSCK, aka Adrien, is a co-founder of the Mawimbi collective, where he has worked as a DJ, producer and label manager. His adventurous sets alternate between tropical and synthetic sounds — from Antillean cadence and Nigerian juju to Congolese soukous and zouk — always travelling across the breadth of the Black Atlantic. He is also a musician in the jazz-ambient group MAÂT.

Andao

Andao is a passionate selector whose mixed background — Réunion, Senegal and Vietnam — informs an optimistic, generous and humanist artistic approach. A vinyl addict, her sets range across Mbalax, Afrobeat, Funk, Soul, Salsa, Afro House, Soukous, Kompa, Maloya and more. Since 2024 she hosts the Andao Airlines programme on RPH radio.

Gong

Gong is a creative spirit worth seeking out on your travels. Whether you encounter their work in a gallery, studio, or performance space, expect an expressive, resonant experience. Ask locals about current exhibitions and events, and let Gong's artistry add a memorable, cultural layer to your journey.
