Warehouse9.

community cafe

Warehouse9 was a street food market and cultural venue on Papirøen, or Paper Island, in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was housed in former paper storage warehouses, and its large, open interior gave it the feel of a converted industrial space rather than a conventional restaurant.

What the visit was like

The venue was built around a collection of food stalls, so a visit meant walking between counters, comparing what each one offered, and then finding a place at one of the communal tables. Sharing seating with strangers was part of the atmosphere, and many people came as much for the easy, informal mood as for the food itself.

Beyond eating, the space also hosted events, which gave it a cultural side alongside its market role.

Please note

Warehouse9 closed in 2017, so it is no longer possible to visit. The details above come from memory and may not be fully accurate. If you are interested in the area, Papirøen and the wider Copenhagen harbour district are worth exploring for their own sake, and the city has many other food markets and cafés to try in its place.
