DR Big Band welcomes acclaimed Brazilian vocalist Joyce Moreno for a special joint tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim, the father of bossa nova, on the occasion of his 100th birthday. The evening blends the warmth of authentic Brazilian bossa nova with the power of a full big band.
Jobim's music — which introduced bossa nova, or 'the new wave', to the world in the 1960s, and later became known as MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) — has achieved classic status and continues to move audiences worldwide.
Joyce Moreno is celebrated as one of the finest living artists working at the intersection of bossa nova, samba, and jazz. Joining her is American big band arranger Michael Abene, who has created bespoke arrangements of Jobim's songbook specifically for DR Big Band and Moreno.
