The Family Workshop at Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen invites children and adults to make their own wooden Christmas decoration. It is held in the lounge room after the café, and it is a relaxed way to spend part of a December afternoon in the city.
What happens at the workshop
Each person makes one Christmas ornament from thin wood veneer. This year the workshop uses veneer instead of paper. The thin wood can be bent, folded and cut into small organic shapes, then held in place with a clip while it takes form. Each person can make one ornament, and the workshop closes when the materials run out.
Who it suits
The workshop is recommended for ages seven to 18. Children and young people should be accompanied by an adult, which makes it a natural choice for families, though adults can join in as well.
- When: two Saturdays, 5 and 12 December
- Where: the lounge room after the café at Designmuseum Danmark
- Suits: families with children aged seven to 18, and adults accompanying them
Around the workshop
The idea grows out of the museum's annual Christmas table, designed by twin sisters Julie and Simone Lundgaard of Skov Studio. The table stands between the museum's foyer and café. If the workshop is full when you arrive, families can spend the waiting time exploring the Christmas table, so the visit still has something to offer.
