M&K Running is a running club in Copenhagen, Denmark, and a relaxed way to see the Danish capital at running pace. It was created by the team behind the Mad & Kaffe cafés and started in 2020 as a small group. Today it has more than 100 runners, and it is run by volunteers.
The club meets three or four times a week, so there is usually a session to join during a visit. The weekly programme includes interval runs on Mondays, pace runs on Wednesdays, a long run on Saturdays and Friday morning runs. On Tuesdays there is a chill run of about 4 to 5 km at an easy pace.
Friday mornings
The Friday runs are a good fit for visitors. They cover 5 km and start from Mad & Kaffe Vesterbro in odd weeks, and from Mad & Kaffe Frederiksberg or Amagerbro in even weeks. Runners are split into three pace groups, and the run ends with breakfast and coffee at the café, which makes it a sociable start to the day.
Running with locals
Routes take in the city's waterfronts, parks and historic streets, so a run here is also a way of seeing Copenhagen from street level and alongside people who know it well. Beginners are welcome, and the easier sessions make it possible to join without a high level of fitness.
Joining
Sign-up is through the CYKOM app. Members who have been running with the club regularly can later apply to become an "Insider". The club also organises a Hope Run. For current details on sessions and how to take part, visit the club's website at mkrunning.dk.
