Fôlego + BOCA ABISSAL brings the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo to Montreal for three performances at Théâtre Maisonneuve, from May 12 to 14, 2027. The evening is a double bill of two works by choreographer Rafaela Sahyoun, and it runs about 95 minutes.
Two works, two atmospheres
The program opens with Fôlego, a piece about breath and pulsation. Its staging relies on a large mirror that turns the stage into a kaleidoscope, so the movement is reflected and multiplied as it unfolds.
BOCA ABISSAL follows with a very different energy. It is a circular, high-energy work for 18 dancers, set to an electro score with Brazilian accents. Watching the full company move together in this piece gives the evening its momentum.
What to expect
- A double bill of two contrasting works by one choreographer
- Fôlego, built around a mirrored stage and a sense of breath
- BOCA ABISSAL, a circular piece for 18 dancers with an electro score
- A running time of about 95 minutes
The Balé da Cidade de São Paulo has more than 200 creations to its name, and this program offers a window into its contemporary repertoire. For anyone interested in dance from Brazil, or in seeing how a mirror and a full ensemble can change the shape of a stage, the evening is a clear choice.
